Most families in Al Mizhar 1, Al Mizhar 2 and Mushrif drive past Mirdif every week anyway. Our rink sits inside Sport Society Mall there, which puts the rink about ten minutes from your door by car. Parking is at the mall, the ice is indoors, and the trip works on a school night as easily as on a weekend morning. That short distance matters more than it sounds. A child who trains twice a week for a season makes the trip around seventy times, and ten minutes each way keeps hockey a habit instead of a chore.
Galaxy Hockey Academy trains 300+ children from 38 nations on real indoor ice, all year round. The heat outside never touches the schedule. Groups run by age, U6, U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16, and children can start from age 3. Adults have their own groups on the same ice, so a parent who played back home, or never did, can lace up too.
The academy is an official partner of the UAE Winter Sports Federation, and its senior team, the Galaxy Warriors, plays in the Emirates Hockey League. For a child that means the ladder is real: the same club that teaches a three-year-old to stand on skates also puts a team on the ice against the country's best. Older players see where the training leads. Younger ones get coaches who work with players at every level.
New players join the group for their age, and the first weeks are about skating: balance, stops, turns, getting up after a fall without thinking about it. Pucks and sticks come in once a child moves with confidence. The younger groups play without body contact, and protective gear covers a player from helmet to skates. If your child already skates, or played hockey in another country, coaches see it in the first ten minutes and place them where they belong. The first trial session is free. Book through glxyhockey.com/start or send one message on WhatsApp with your child's age and whether they have skated before. We come back with a group and a time. On the day, bring water and a pair of warm socks. Everything else, from what to wear to what the group needs, we go through with you when you book, so you arrive knowing exactly what to expect. One session answers two questions at once: does your child want to come back, and does the drive from Al Mizhar fit your week. At about ten minutes, the second answer is usually yes.
The 2026/27 season started on 1 September, and groups are training now. Times depend on the age group, so rather than print a timetable that goes out of date, we keep it on the kids academy page and confirm your child's exact slot when you book on /start. Joining a few weeks into the season is normal. Coaches bring new players up to speed inside the group, and plans are on the pricing page once you have seen the ice.
Galaxy is preparing to open GLXY Sport Hub, a new arena with two sheets of ice. Until it opens, all training runs at our rink in Sport Society Mall, Mirdif, with the same coaches and the same groups, and families who start now simply carry on with their group. Neighbours in Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai Creek Harbour make a longer drive to the same ice. From Al Mizhar, you have the shortest one.
