September offer

The first session is free

Free · gear provided · from age 4

Four years old is enough

We take children from age 4. At that age a session looks like a game with a coach in the middle of it: standing up, falling, pushing off, chasing a puck that goes everywhere except where they aimed. Groups run by birth year from U6 and U8 up to U16, so your child trains with children their own size and moves up with the same teammates each season. Starting later is normal too. Beginners join at 7, at 9, at 11, and coaches place them by skill rather than by birthday.

Your child does not need to skate first

This is the question most parents send us first, and the answer is no. Coaches start every new player on skating: balance, edges, stopping, turning. Sticks come after that. In a beginner group half the children have never stood on ice, so nobody is behind. Expect the first weeks to be about feet, not pucks.

Buy nothing before the first session

Skates, helmet, pads and a stick wait at the rink. Bring warm clothes your child can move in, thin gloves and a bottle of water, and that is the whole list. Buying gear before you know whether hockey sticks is how families waste money. Once your child is training regularly, the pro shop on the first floor of Sport Society fits skates properly and sharpens them, and the used gear page covers the first season cheaply.

Is it safe? Here is what actually happens

Body contact starts at 12 to 14. Below that age the game is non-contact: referees stop any hit, and coaches stop it before the referee does. Every player wears full protection from the first minute on the ice: helmet with a cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, padded pants, shin guards and a mouthguard. A child who falls at speed lands on padding. The most common bruise in a beginner group is to the ego. We answer this in more detail on is ice hockey safe for kids.

What it costs

Term 1, September to December, costs AED 6,900. Term 2, January to March, AED 5,900. Term 3, April to June, AED 5,600. The full season is AED 17,500. Add 5% VAT to any of them. The price covers ice time and coaching, and the full season package includes one set of match kit in each colour. Camps, tournaments and extra sessions sit outside the package. The pricing page lists it line by line, with nothing hidden below the fold.

What the first month looks like

Week one your child spends more time on the ice than above it, and comes off grinning. Week two they cross the rink without holding the boards. Week three a stick appears, and the puck starts going roughly forward. By week four most kids are asking whether they can come twice a week, and that is when parents usually message us about the season. Some children decide hockey is not for them, which is exactly what a free first session is for.

Where you will be sitting

Training runs at Sport Society Mall in Mirdif: parking under the building, cafes on the floor above, and a view of the ice while you work through your phone. Sessions last 60 minutes and the season runs 1 September to 30 June. Galaxy Arena, our own rink, is opening soon, and families who start now keep their place when it opens. Galaxy is an official partner of the UAE Winter Sports Federation, and the IIHF World Championship Division II Group A lands in Al Ain in 2027, which your child will care about more than you expect.

Kids hockey FAQ

From what age can a child start ice hockey in Dubai?
Galaxy takes children from age 4. Groups run by birth year from U6 through U16, so a four-year-old joins the youngest group and moves up with the same teammates. Children who start at 7, 9 or 11 join a beginner group for their age, and every season brings new ones.
Does my child need to know how to skate first?
No. Coaches start every new player on skating: balance, edges, stopping and turning, before any puck work. Many children in a beginner group have never stood on ice before their first session.
What do we need to buy before the first session?
Nothing. Skates, helmet, pads and a stick wait at the rink for the first session. Bring warm clothes your child can move in, thin gloves and water. Once hockey sticks, the pro shop on the first floor of Sport Society fits gear and sharpens skates.
Is ice hockey safe for young children?
Body contact starts at 12 to 14. Below that age the game is non-contact, referees stop any hit, and every player wears full protection: helmet with cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, pants, shin guards and a mouthguard. A fall on the ice lands on padding.
How much does kids hockey in Dubai cost?
Term 1 (September to December) costs AED 6,900, Term 2 (January to March) AED 5,900, Term 3 (April to June) AED 5,600, and the full season AED 17,500. Add 5% VAT. The first session is free for one child, all September.
Where and when do the kids train?
Training runs at Sport Society Mall in Mirdif, Dubai, with parking and cafes for parents. Sessions last 60 minutes and the season runs 1 September to 30 June. Galaxy Arena, our own rink, is opening soon. Message us with your child's age and we will send the times for their group.
