Search "ladies hockey UAE" and you get very little back. The sport is young here, and most rinks in the region sell public skating instead of teams. Galaxy went the other way: one club, real indoor ice in Mirdif, groups running back to back from morning until late evening.
Women fit that schedule two ways. The women's team trains as a squad under professional coaches and plays games. The ladies ice sessions run lighter, for women who want ice time without a season contract. Plenty do both, and take the mixed adult pick-up games for extra reps.
Starting from zero
A first session goes like this. You arrive 30 minutes early, we fit you with rental skates, helmet, pads, gloves and a stick. A coach walks you through edges and stopping while the group works drills. Nobody makes you scrimmage on day one.
Never skated at all? Start on the learn to skate track, then cross to hockey once you glide and stop with confidence. Women who played back home go straight to the team.
Gear, cost, games
Gear is the question we get most. Nobody buys 3,000 AED of equipment to find out whether they like a sport, so Galaxy keeps a rental set for this.
Then you get a scoreboard. The Galaxy Hockey League runs October to April, seven teams, live-streamed at Galaxy Arena, plus tournaments in the UAE and abroad. Our senior side, Galaxy Warriors, plays the Emirates Hockey League with AMYLCO on the chest.
