A trial at Galaxy Hockey Academy puts you on the ice with a real coached group: skating drills, puck work and small games, for a full session. Coaches watch how you skate, how you handle the puck and how you read the game, then talk to you afterward about the right group and next steps. Kids and adults trial the same way. Skip the shopping trip. A full rental set, skates, stick, helmet and pads, is ready at the rink, so first-timers, newcomers to the UAE and experienced players between clubs can all just turn up. Wear warm, comfortable clothing you can move in, gloves help, and let us handle the rest. Hockey gear covers a player completely, head to toe, so the sport is safer than most people expect. Our home arena is Sport Society Mall in Mirdif, Dubai, roughly 15 minutes from Downtown, Dubai Creek Harbour and Sobha Hartland.
Groups run by age and current level, not birth year alone. Our Kids Academy trains youth groups from U6 to U16, and adults train separately at every level, from complete beginner to former club player. During the trial, coaches watch skating, edges, stickhandling and hockey sense, then confirm the group that fits, occasionally a year up or down from age, depending on ability. Families arrive at Galaxy from two different starting points, and both use the same trial. A first-timer, often a child trying skates for the first time or an adult who always wanted to play, gets a gentle introduction, no prior skills assumed. An experienced player, frequently part of a family relocating to Dubai or Abu Dhabi who already played back home, uses the trial to confirm level fast and slot into a team without waiting months for a new season. Either way, one trial, one honest conversation about where you fit.
Galaxy Hockey Academy trains 300+ players from 38 nations under professional coaches, in official partnership with the UAE Winter Sports Federation. The country's hockey momentum is real: the UAE will host the IIHF 2027 Division II-A World Championship in Al Ain, putting itself on the international hockey map. Our own arena, Galaxy Arena in Oud Metha, opens September 2026, adding dedicated ice to a growing hockey community. A trial today is a small first step into that.
