After-school hockey in Dubai

School finishes, your child changes in the car, and by 17:15 they are on the ice. Galaxy runs ice hockey classes on weekday evenings and at weekends for ages 4 to 16, season 2026/27. We lend the full kit for the first session, so you buy nothing to find out whether your child loves it.

The week

What your child's week looks like

Weekday ice starts after the school run and finishes before homework time. The youngest groups skate first, the oldest last. Weekends add a second ice session and off-ice work.

After-school activities in Dubai

Why parents pick the ice

Dubai gives families plenty of after-school options, and most of them are outdoors or in a hall. Hockey sits in a hall too, at minus 4 degrees, on a full-size sheet of real indoor ice. In June, when the school gate reads 45 degrees, that matters more than any brochure line.

Galaxy is the largest ice hockey club in the UAE, with 500+ players from 38 nations and coaches who came up through professional systems. The 2026/27 season runs from 1 September to 30 June, with at least 109 hours of ice on the regular schedule.

The week fits around school

Weekday ice starts at 17:15 for U6 and U8, which lands after the last school bus and before dinner. From U10 the slot moves to 18:30 or 18:45, and U14 and U16 skate at 19:45 and 20:00, when teenagers still have energy left. Weekends carry the second load: ice on Sunday morning for the middle groups, off-ice strength and coordination on Saturday.

That rhythm puts a child on the ice two to four times a week with the same coach and the same teammates, and repetition is what moves a skater forward.

What your child needs for the first session

  • Nothing to buy. We lend skates, helmet, gloves and pads for the trial. See equipment rental if you want the detail.
  • Warm socks and a base layer. Long sleeves under the pads, and thick socks that reach above the skate.
  • A bottle of water. Coaches build breaks into the hour.
  • Arrive 20 minutes early. Fitting skates properly takes longer than parents expect the first time.

Parents watch from the stands. Sport Society has parking, cafés and shops, so the hour passes without anyone sitting in a car park.

Getting there after the school run

The drive decides most families. From Creek Harbour, Sobha Hartland and Downtown you reach the ice in about 15 minutes outside peak traffic. Add time in rush hour, as you would for anything in Dubai. Families come to us from Mirdif, Festival City, Silicon Oasis and Al Warqa on the same evening slots, and several share driving between two or three households.

Tell us your school and area when you write, and we point you at the group whose evening fits your traffic.

From trial to season

The path has three steps and no surprises. You book a trial, a coach watches your child on the ice and tells you the group that fits. Then you join that group for a term or the full season, and your child trains on the same schedule as the rest of the team.

Term 1 runs from 1 September to 31 December and costs 6,900 AED. The full season is 17,500 AED. Both are plus 5% VAT, and both cover the regular ice and off-ice schedule for the group. Camps and tournaments are paid separately, camp prices are on the pricing page. For other groups and session counts we send the current price list on WhatsApp.

Safety, in plain terms

Hockey is one of the safest sports in the world, because the equipment covers the player from head to skate. There is no body contact until 12 to 14 years old, so U6 through U12 spend their ice time on skating, puck handling and small-sided games. Every player needs a valid medical clearance before the season, which we check at registration.

After-school hockey FAQ

What time do after-school hockey sessions start in Dubai?
Weekday ice runs in the evening, from 17:15 for the youngest groups up to 20:00 for U16. Younger children skate earlier so they get home and to bed on time. Weekend sessions run in the morning. We confirm the exact slot for your child's group on WhatsApp before the first session.
How many days a week will my child train?
U6 and U8 train twice a week on weekday evenings. From U10 the week grows to two or three weekday sessions plus weekend ice and off-ice work. The 2026/27 season runs from 1 September to 30 June with at least 109 hours of ice on the regular schedule.
What does my child need for the first session?
Nothing but water, warm socks and a base layer. We lend skates, helmet and protective gear for the trial, so you buy nothing before you know your child likes it. Buying comes later, and the pro shop at Sport Society fits and sharpens gear.
My child has never skated. Is that a problem?
No. Most children who join Galaxy start from zero. Coaches split the group by level, so a beginner works on balance and gliding while stronger skaters do puck work on the same ice. There is no body contact until 12 to 14, so the youngest groups learn skating and skills.
How much does after-school hockey cost in Dubai?
Term 1, from 1 September to 31 December, is 6,900 AED. The full 2026/27 season is 17,500 AED. Both are plus 5% VAT and cover the regular ice and off-ice schedule for the group. Camps, tournaments and extra sessions are paid separately, camp prices are on the pricing page. For other groups and session counts we send the current price list on WhatsApp.
Which age groups do you run?
U6, U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16, set by date of birth. U6 takes children born from 2 September 2020, so a four-year-old can start. A coach can move a player to another group by level, development and size.
